The passing of time continues for eternity, but our memories of moments in time become altered by our own perceptions of what we choose to remember. We cause our memory to crease or to be shaped into what we desire due to our new experiences and shifts in morals and beliefs.
By synching the fabric and sewing creases in the skirt, I am able to mimic this effect we have on our memory as wrinkles in time. When creating the skirt, I began with a blank, smoothly draped, cotton muslin to represent the past moment in time. As time progressed and my perception of what I would create shifted, so did the form and shape of my garment. New creases began to form and particular areas would be synched tighter than others. As each year passes, there is a time of remembrance, and just like the recurrence of the Spring season, each year our perception of the past continues to alter.
