In a draping class I took this spring, our assignment was to design, drape, and sew a dress. After experimenting with the dress form I decided to make a shift dress. The bodice is made of satin silk. By folding and manipulating the fabric to form darts on the front bodice, I was able to allow the fabric to shape to the form's bust.
The skirt is made of georgette fabric and is constructed with two layers. By sewing a second layer to the base fabric of the skirt I am able to create more volume. I also included an open backside to the second layer, which creates more movement and flow in the skirt as air is able to move through the fabric.
